This song goes by two names in my mind… Quarantine / Prison Walls
“Prison Walls” was written during an intense two-week Covid-19 quarantine period. I was confined in a two story apartment in Perth mid-summer 🌞 I felt a deep sense of isolation and longing, lucky I had a piano to try and keep sane. I wrote this song drawing a parallel between this quarantine experience and the harsh reality of what I thought it must feel like being behind prison walls. The song encapsulates the emotional turmoil and the psychological battles faced during this unprecedented time.
The lyrics paint a vivid picture of confinement and yearning for freedom. Lines like “watch the clock tick away” and “damn these prison walls, need breathing space” resonate with anyone who has felt the weight of isolation. The chorus, a poignant cry for connection, emphasizes the universal desire to break free and reconnect with the world outside.
