After I Left

"After I Left" was the lead single from Alexis Naylor's debut EP, Daydreamer, released in 2019. While many listeners initially assume it's a breakup song because of its title, Alexis has explained that it was actually written about mental health, grief, and the impact our absence can have on the people we love.

It speaks to the quiet questions that often accompany depression:

  • Would people notice?

  • Would they understand?

  • What would be left behind?

The lyrics are intentionally intimate, avoiding dramatic declarations in favour of vulnerability. The song sits in a space between despair and hope, acknowledging darkness while gently reminding listeners that their lives have meaning and that their absence would be deeply felt.
